Frequently Asked Questions

What is CO2?

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas is referred to as a “greenhouse gas” because it allows sunlight to enter the atmosphere and, like the glass of a greenhouse, it keeps the heat trapped inside. This warms up the planet, which takes our ecosystem out of balance. CO2 is the major cause of climate change in the world.

What are greenhouse gases?

Human activity has increased the amount of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. The major GHG of concern to climate change are; carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and ozone.

What is a carbon credit?

One carbon offset removes one metric ton (2,205 lbs) of carbon dioxide emissions. Carbon credits offset carbon emissions in one place by eliminating it from another place. This produces a net carbon output of zero.

Why should I offset more than a 100% of my carbon emissions?

The mission of Carbon Harmony is to counteract climate change so that a lifestyle, a product, an event, a business or a project actually has a reducing effect on the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the environment. Carbon Harmony projects go beyond carbon neutrality. By offsetting more GHG than a project emits, a net reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) is emitted in the atmosphere. Live in harmony with the planet today.

What qualify as a special project?

Events such as Concerts, Tradeshows, Corporate Events, Presentations, Large Parties, Weddings, etc… Or Projects such as an entire business’s operations or a product line.

What type of projects has Carbon Harmon offset in the past?

We have done carbon footprint analysis for the Sasquatch! Music Festival, KGO Eco Live, the product line for Just Desserts, among others.

What methodologies does Carbon Harmony use?

Carbon Harmony uses some of the methodologies developed by Presidio School of Management Green MBA while doing carbon analysis for Cliff Bar. Also, Pablo Paster helped us develop some of our footprint tools. We use WRI, US DOE EIA, and in special cases we use some in-house methodologies.

What accreditations does Carbon Harmony have?

Carbon Harmon is a founding member of the Business Council for Climate Change (BC3) and certified members of the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX).

Can I speak with a Carbon Harmony representative who can help me calculate the GHG emissions for a special project?

Yes. Please call 415 648 1299 or email us to get assistance from a Carbon Harmony Representative to begin calculating the carbon emissions for your special project. Please read through the Carbon Offsets page before calling.

Can I get a refund?
